    Catholic Life and Mission

“At the heart of Catholic education lies the Christian vision of the human person.” (Religious Education in Catholic Schools-Bishops’ Conference 2000)

Inspired by the life and work of our patron Saint Bede, our mission is to provide an excellent Catholic education for all our students and enable them to respond to the call of Christ throughout their lives. Everything we do has its foundation in love and we want to encourage all in our community to partner with God so as to walk in newness of life. Religious Formation in the school is in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church, and religious worship is in accordance with its rites and passages.

As a Christian community, characterised by a spirit of respect, trust and joy, we promote excellence in every aspect of life, thereby fully developing each individual.

    The St Bede’s Way

The St Bede’s Way is a practical guide to the culture at St Bede’s. It is the way we aspire to do things, the expectations we have of each other and the support we provide to help us all succeed. It is the aim of all our community, both adults and students.

Jesus outlined Gospel Values during the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:3-12) where he gave several blessings, each beginning with the phrase, “Blessed are (e.g. the pure in heart)….” He was referring to the values and qualities required to enter heaven. According to the sermon, the following character qualities and values help individuals to live fulfilled and happy lives:

    ● Integrity

    ● Compassion

    ● Gentleness

    ● Justice

    ● Forgiveness

    ● Peacemaker

    ● Service

    ● Courage

As a Catholic College, collective worship plays a fundamental part of daily school life and enables us all to join together as one in prayer and worship.

St Bede’s is a special place of learning because of the sense of community it provides, and the relationships between teachers and students. Being part of this team engenders respect and a love of teaching and learning, celebrating each individual for their talents and becoming the person God has created us to be.

We achieve this by ensuring students engage with their faith daily, through a combination of worship, assemblies and masses, as well as liturgies, adoration and reconciliation at key liturgical times of the year. Mass is celebrated every Wednesday morning in our main hall.

Another key part of the College life is putting students’ and teachers’ faith into action through service and the Common Good; whether this is through our house system and fundraising, Student leadership with our Chaplaincy Team or links with local and national charities.

Our College celebrates, develops and enhances the Catholic Life of our students and ensures our Catholic ethos underpins all that we do and strive to achieve.
