On Tuesday 25th February, 30 Sixth Form students from year 12 took part in the annual London Law and Politics Trip.
Students spent the morning exploring the Imperial War Museum, and were particularly moved by viewing the Holocaust exhibition. Students were then taken on a guided tour around the Palace of Westminster. We knew that we would have the opportunity to see a debate in the House of Commons or House of Lords. However, we never expected to find out we would watch the Prime Minister announcing the increase in defence spending and see so many major politicians like Angela Rayner (the Deputy Prime Minister) and Kemi Badenock (the Leader of the Opposition) Students heard impassioned speeches from opposition backbenchers regarding the decrease in Aid spending and were thrilled they could see politics in action!
The picture is of our sixth-formers standing in Westminster Hall, which is 1000 years old. You have may have seen this part of Parliament on TV as it is where the Queen was laid in state. Students then took part in a workshop on what it is like to be an MP and had the chance to debate for themselves which laws they would like to see introduced.
